Ohio Midterm Voting Ends as Key Races and Control of Congress Hang in the Balance
November 4, 2026
Ohio’s 2026 midterm voting has ended, with results still pending for the governor’s and U.S. Senate races, Cuyahoga County levies and local issues.
The national fight for control of Congress is tight: Democrats need to gain four Senate seats and three House seats to take control and challenge President Donald Trump’s agenda during the final two years of his term.
Much of that battle is playing out in states and districts Trump previously won by wide margins, including Ohio.
Democrats have focused on Trump’s low approval rating, dissatisfaction with the war in Iran and affordability concerns, while Republicans have emphasized social issues; Trump has made himself central to the campaign.
Early voting exceeded the 2022 midterm level, and voting generally proceeded with few problems despite Trump’s continued claims about election cheating.
Election Day voting appeared smooth in Cuyahoga County and nationally, with only minor reports of machine trouble and confusion over campaign-sign placement.
There were some disruptions: weather prompted polling-place changes in Florida and parts of the Southwest, while a ballot-scanner problem delayed counting in suburban Westchester County, New York, but did not stop voting.
