A cross-borough spree of mosque thefts is under investigation, with the most recent case in February 2026 at Omar Mosque on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx, where about $4,440 was stolen from an unattended jacket, and other incidents have occurred in Queens.

NYPD says a suspect, 48-year-old Nabil Kartah, is wanted for a pattern of mosque thefts across New York City over nearly two years, totaling more than $10,000 in stolen property.

Police report that Kartah is accused of stealing wallets and cash, with victims filing unauthorized bank charges that push the total property loss to over $10,000 across six mosques and one non-mosque theft.

The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force is leading the investigation into the cross-borough theft spree, and authorities are asking the public for tips via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).

Authorities are actively seeking 48-year-old Nabil Kartah in connection with the series of mosque thefts spanning nearly two years across New York City.

Earlier in Brooklyn, a second mosque theft occurred, including the September 3, 2025 incident at Al-Aman Mosque in Cypress Hills where about $930 was stolen from an unattended backpack.
