A Florida-based operation called Legacy Imigra allegedly defrauded hundreds of immigrants, primarily Brazilians, across at least four states.

Authorities estimate the scheme generated more than $20 million in fraudulent gains.

The group, including a man, his wife, and two others, allegedly filed fraudulent asylum applications for clients and held their real documents hostage.

The indictment was announced by the state attorney-general’s office, underscoring a significant case of immigration-related fraud targeting vulnerable immigrant communities.

The operation ran a storefront in Orlando that was boarded up, charging clients for bogus immigration services.
