Apple announced the iPhone Duo on September 9, opened preorders on October 16 and began selling it on October 23 across more than 70 countries and regions, making earlier reports that its launch was imminent outdated.

The device delivered on unusually accurate software-code clues: the book-style foldable has two displays, a multi-position hinge and Touch ID in the side button instead of Face ID, alongside Dynamic Island.

Its 7.6-inch inner OLED display and 5.4-inch outer OLED display both run at 120Hz; the phone starts at $1,999 for 256GB, while pre-launch estimates of 7.8 and 5.5 inches were close but not exact.

The Duo also features an A20 Pro chip, a titanium frame and a battery in each half, with Apple claiming up to 24 hours of typical use—a manufacturer estimate, not an independent test result.

Software updates add Split View multitasking in iOS 27.1 and Apple Pencil support and Edge Light in iOS 27.2; developers are advised to make apps resize dynamically and respond to folding, unfolding, Touch ID and the under-display inner camera.

Apple acknowledged on October 26 that a small number of early units had cracks or bright lines on the inner display, but the cause and failure rate remain unknown, and online percentage claims are unverified.

The early clues surfaced in iOS 27 beta code discovered on June 8, 2026, which referred to fold states, hinge angles, angle-reading validity and multiple displays; later battery-health text suggested a dual-battery design.
