AI-Built Buddhist Temple Draws 600,000 Visitors in Three Days

Sansa, an online Buddhist temple built by 26-year-old Park Jinwon in about 30 minutes with OpenAI’s Codex, drew 600,000 visitors in its first three days after launching on October 26.
Visitors can explore the temple as monk characters, praying, rolling prayer beads and dancing, although the site has no separate chat function.
The site was handling traffic with about 100 Cloudflare servers, while Park planned to scale it for more than 10,000 users, release an App Store version and add seasonal events.
Sansa is part of a broader shift toward AI-assisted virtual-world creation: earlier metaverse projects often struggled to sustain engagement because they offered limited activities and content, while new AI tools make personalized worlds easier for non-professionals to build.
Roughly 300 virtual spaces have emerged through “vibe coding,” including an online cathedral, a Camino de Santiago route and virtual campfires for fire-gazing.
But Dongguk University professor Park Jinho cautioned that easier creation does not guarantee lasting interest or revenue, leaving the metaverse’s commercial revival uncertain.
