TikTok’s USDS Joint Venture has joined Lantern, a cross-platform child safety initiative launched in 2023 to share signals of harmful behavior and content across platforms.

The NCMEC modernization project will span three years with a $10 million investment, bringing together AWS, Microsoft, and Palantir to deploy advanced search, automation, and analysis tools that detect harm earlier and speed up reporting to law enforcement.

As required for U.S.-based companies, the TikTok USDS JV reports to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s CyberTipline and is contributing $2 million to NCMEC to modernize that CyberTipline.

Lantern includes major tech players such as Google, X, Snap, Twitch, Anthropic, Meta, Discord, Microsoft, Apple, Roblox, and Reddit, and aims to help identify bad actors moving between platforms.

TikTok emphasizes that the investment and Lantern participation are meant to strengthen coordinated enforcement against child sexual exploitation and abuse across the tech ecosystem.

TikTok’s participation aligns with competitors already in Lantern, and by 2025 the program has shared more than 2 million signals of potentially violating behavior across member companies.
