iOS 27 Overhauls Notification Center with Siri AI Integration, Users Seek Option to Revert Gestures
September 1, 2026
iOS 27 marks a major shift in how users access Notification Center on iPhone and iPad, moving toward deeper Siri AI integration.
The change requires users to relearn gestures, and many want a disable option to revert to the old gesture, which isn’t available yet.
iOS 27 is currently in developer and public beta, with the official release expected later this month.
On iPadOS 27, initial layouts placed most of the top area near Siri AI, but beta updates have balanced the region into a left Notification Center panel and a right Control Center panel, with Siri occupying space in between.
Notification Center can still be accessed by swiping down from the top-left corner, where alerts now animate in from the corner when Siri AI is enabled.
However, swiping down from the center of the top edge now invokes Siri instead of Notification Center when Siri AI is on, changing a decades‑long muscle memory.
Apple is prioritizing expanding Siri AI access, with most of the top edge dedicated to invoking Siri in iOS 27.
