Punjab Leads Pakistan with Digital Health Census, Pioneering Data-Driven Healthcare Policies
July 5, 2026
Punjab has become the first Pakistani province to digitally map citizens' health and demographic profiles through the largest-ever digital health census under the Community Health Inspectors Programme, with completion close at hand.
The chief minister reviewed a digital dashboard detailing health status, lifestyle, economic conditions, access to drinking water, and disabilities, and directed weekly performance reports from Cath Labs.
The chief minister praised anti-polio efforts, highlighting negative environmental polio samples from 19 districts and commending frontline workers for protecting children.
Phase II Cath Labs in eight more districts are targeted to be completed by the end of July, following a high-level Health and Population Department meeting chaired by the chief minister.
Policy decisions will rely on verified digital data rather than estimates, enabling precise planning for patients and medicines, with a new population management campaign to be launched.
Each household has a unique identification number; 14,300 Community Health Inspectors conducted door-to-door visits to gather medical, demographic, and socio-economic data.
Over 85 percent of the population in 18 districts has been profiled, with five districts at 100 percent and five more above 95 percent, totaling nearly 94.3 million profiles.
A disaster recovery site will secure Punjab’s health database, and 16 Cath Labs are planned to be operational province-wide by December, with five already functioning and new labs in Bhakkar, Bahawalnagar, and Layyah coming online.
A proposal for the Maryam Nawaz Sehatmand Gharana Programme would connect citizens directly with primary healthcare centres and enable digital follow-up to monitor chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, hepatitis, cancer, and malnutrition.
