A UK startup, Conflow Power Group Limited, proposes embedding micro data centers directly in urban lampposts to disperse compute and bring AI processing closer to users.
The micro data centers would use self-destructing or tamper-resistant hardware with firmware locking, encryption, and anti-tampering measures to disable compromised components or prevent unauthorized access.
Locally generated solar energy and battery backups would power the lamppost data centers, reducing reliance on centralized hyperscale data centers and addressing sustainability concerns.
