Meta Expands Ray-Ban Gesture Messaging, Adds Display Recording and Global Walking Directions
May 14, 2026
Meta is expanding gesture-based handwriting messaging on the Ray-Ban Display to all users, integrating it across WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and native Android and iOS messaging.
A new display recording feature combines the lens display view, the real-world view, and surrounding audio to create a single video.
Walking directions are now available across the contiguous United States and in major international cities, including London, Paris, and Rome.
The new display recording feature builds on the glasses' neural wristband and follows an earlier January early-access launch for WhatsApp and Messenger.
Meta is opening up app development for the glasses in a developer preview, allowing developers to deploy web apps to the Ray-Ban Display.
Live captions will be available in WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and as captions for voice messages in Instagram DMs.
