China’s AI Inference Data Surpasses Training Data for First Time as Adoption Soars
November 2, 2026
A government-backed report says China’s AI systems generated more inference data than training data for the first time, a milestone it attributes to wider AI adoption.
Inference is the process of using trained AI models to answer requests, and token-call volumes through public cloud providers offer a measure of demand for AI services.
The China Centre for Information Industry Development, which operates under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, cited official figures showing average daily token calls in China exceeded 175 trillion.
The report, released on Saturday, said daily token calls had risen more than 1,000-fold since early 2024.
