Key hurdles include access to AI hardware, shortage of skilled AI talent, advanced model development demands, data security and regulatory compliance, responsible AI deployment, and intense global competition.

India's competitive advantages comprise a vast software engineering talent pool, robust digital infrastructure, a burgeoning startup ecosystem, expanding cloud capabilities, cost-effective talent, and strong government backing.

AI adoption spans multiple sectors: healthcare diagnostics, banking fraud detection, manufacturing predictive maintenance, retail personalization, agriculture crop analytics, and government automation and citizen services.

The strategy aims to shift Indian IT firms up the value chain toward delivering scalable AI-enabled applications and platforms with recurring subscription revenue.

Government support through initiatives like the IndiaAI Mission includes subsidized GPUs, backing for AI startups, national AI computing infrastructure, development of indigenous AI models, and emphasis on responsible AI.

Analysts anticipate AIaaS becoming a major source of recurring revenue for Indian IT companies, with ongoing investments in generative AI, AI agents, cloud platforms, and enterprise automation.
