South Korean AI Services Join Global Elite in a16z's Top 50 List
March 22, 2026
Two South Korean AI services crack the world’s top 50 most-used generative AI tools in a16z’s latest report: A.dot from SK Telecom sits at 39th among web products, while Naver’s Papago (translation) and SNOW (photo editing) rank 43rd and 48th on the mobile apps list.
A.dot nails its third consecutive top-50 finish, after placing 15th in the first half of 2025 and 35th in the second half, and remains the only domestic web entry in the top 50.
Papago ranks 43rd in the mobile app sector, signaling Korea’s growing footprint alongside global leaders.
The competitive landscape shows strong growth across peers: Gemini users up 258% year over year, Claude subscriptions up more than 200%, and Google pushing user inflows with models like Nano Banana and Veo3, while Anthropic expands Claude Code for developers.
Google’s Nano Banana for image generation and Veo3 for video generation are identified as drivers of user growth, with Anthropic targeting paid subscribers for Claude Code.
Anthropic’s Claude family posts rapid subscription gains year over year, about 200% for Claude and 258% for Claude Code as of January.
The report notes a market shift toward AI embedded in existing platforms rather than standalone products, with examples like OpenAI’s Atlas, Perplexity’s Comet, and Google Workspace’s AI features.
In other words, AI is increasingly a feature inside broader services, not just a separate product.
The landscape shows leading consumer AI products coexisting with regionally strong, locally developed AI apps, reflecting diverse adoption patterns.
ChatGPT remains the top web and mobile gen AI product, with global visits leading the field and about 900 million weekly active users in the past year.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT leads in both web traffic and mobile engagement, with its monthly web visits and mobile active users significantly outpacing competitors like Google’s Gemini.
ChatGPT tops web and mobile rankings globally, with web traffic roughly 2.7 times and mobile activity about 2.5 times that of the nearest rival, totaling around 900 million weekly active users.
