Firefox iOS Introduces Built-in Ad Blocker with Enhanced Privacy Features
September 12, 2026
Firefox for iOS has rolled out a built-in Ad Blocker that blocks third-party ads, intrusive formats, and certain trackers by default using Apple's WebKit Content Blocker technology, though the feature is disabled by default and must be enabled in Settings > Browsing > Ad Blocker.
In addition to the Ad Blocker, Firefox for iOS adds a pop-up blocker, enhanced tracking protection, and an AI setting to block AI enhancements, reinforcing its growing iOS feature set.
Safari on iOS does not include a default ad blocker, but it offers Hide Distracting Items to temporarily remove page elements, which is not a full replacement for a proper ad blocker.
The iOS Ad Blocker targets ads from third-party networks and exchanges and avoids certain formats; however, some ads may still appear on Firefox’s own search results, home page, or new tab page depending on filters.
For permanent ad blocking on Safari, users can install extensions like AdGuard, 1Blocker, and AdBlock Plus since Safari supports extensions.
The iOS Ad Blocker relies on a filter based on EasyList and is not available on Android or desktop Firefox; desktop and Android users can rely on third-party extensions for blocking ads.
The rollout of Firefox’s iOS Ad Blocker is gradual, so some users may not see the feature yet as it expands globally.
