Apple’s iPhone 17 led global smartphone sales in the second quarter, capturing about 6% of unit sales according to Counterpoint Research.

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra outpaced its predecessor and helped drive more than half of the Galaxy S26 series’ sales, supported by a first-in-market privacy display, stronger AI features, and strategic promotions to counter revenue pressures.

An increase in smartphone prices pushed consumers toward higher-end models, reinforcing Apple’s competitive position.

Apple posted around 5% year-on-year growth in device sales despite a sluggish market, with momentum in regions including India, Japan, the Middle East and Africa, and South Korea.

Among the top 10 models, five were iPhones, with the iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro ranking second and third, followed by the iPhone 17E and iPhone 16.

The base iPhone 17 remained the top seller in Q2, boosted by upgrades that narrowed the gap with Pro models, while strong premium demand supported the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max through trade-ins, promotions, and easier financing.

Samsung dominated the rest of the top contenders in Q2, led by the Galaxy S26 Ultra, with the Galaxy S26 family and models like Galaxy A07, A17 5G, and A17 4G rounding out the top five non-Apple devices.
